Meditation is simply the practice of relaxing your body and quieting your mind. Meditation is great method of improving your overall health. Learning to meditate will also help sharpen your awareness, increase concentration and assist in shutting off the mind chatter.
Meditation is also the foundation to developing your psychic ability. It requires discipline and dedication but it is well worth it. Without it you will find it impossible to expand your awareness.
I am amazed that very few books on psychic development start out with teaching meditation techniques, or even talk about now important meditation is to your development. This will be your first step. Practice meditation daily leading up to your first lesson and continue thereafter. It will be a huge benefit to you, not only for your psychic development but also for your health and well being.
It is important to train your mind to clear away unwanted noise and distraction so you can connect with your Higher Self. The constant noise and chatter makes it difficult to hear your inner voice. The more you learn to still your mind chatter, the more you will be able to tune into your psychic senses. The more aware you are the more you will be able to recognize and understand messages from your Higher Self and the more you will be able to discern the differences among the different types of psychic activities.
This meditation is not meant, at the beginning, to do anything more than teach you how to quiet your mind. As we go further into the lessons I will add steps that will help to protect yourself from harmful energies, raise your vibration and help you connect with your angels and spirit guides.
To begin, try to find a quiet place to meditate. Meditating in the same place and at the same time every day (if possible) will help you set the tone for your daily practice. Your body and mind will soon learn that when you enter this place at this time it’s time to go into meditation mode.
Most teachers recommend you sit in a straight backed chair, feet on the floor and hands on your lap. This is supposed to help the energy flow more freely through your body. For me personally, I am not comfortable sitting like that. I always sit in a crossed leg position. I feel what makes you most comfortable is what will work best for you. I also like to light a candle and some incense.
Now, sit or lay in a relaxed comfortable position. Close your eyes and breathe deeply using slow deep breaths. Inhale through your nose for the count of 4, hold for a count of 4 and then exhale slowly through your mouth for the count of 4. Breathing properly is very important. Make sure you breathe deep into your belly. Your belly should rise and fall with each breath. Continue breathing. Concentrate on your breath.
It is perfectly normal for thoughts creep into your mind, especially in the beginning. You must learn to acknowledge and then release them. Let these distractions simply float out of your mind and go back to concentrating on your breathing. Listening to slow rhythmic music, drumming or spirit flutes will help you maintain concentration. If you have trouble in the beginning, don’t get discouraged. Just start with 5 minutes and work your way up each day until you reach at least 15 to 20 minutes.
The more you learn to still your mind chatter the more you will be able to tune into your psychic senses. The more aware you are the more you will be able to recognize and understand messages from your Higher Self and the more you will be able to discern the differences among the different types of psychic activities. You will also begin to recognize the messages from your spirit guides and angels.
Remember, in the beginning your mind will wander. Don’t get discouraged. Be patient. Practice makes perfect.
Record your experiences, feelings, expectations and fears in your journal daily. If you stick with it, in just a few short weeks you will be amazed at your progress.

When I am having trouble focusing and quieting my mind I count down from 12 to 1. As I am counting down in my mind, I am also visualizing the numbers in my mind.
