Reiki

Reiki
Universal Life Force Energy

The secret art of inviting happiness,
The miraculous medicine of all diseases.

Just for today, do not anger.
Do not worry and be filled with gratitude.
Devote yourself to your work. Be kind to people.
Every morning and evening, join your hands in prayer.
Pray these words to your heart
and chant these words with your mouth.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" or simply holding the hands just above the body to direct the flow of energy, and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well being. Many have reported miraculous results.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

We are alive because life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body though pathways called chakras, meridians and nadis. It also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.

The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body.

Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.

Reiki's use is not dependent on one's intellectual capacity or spiritual development and therefore is available to
everyone. It has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy." While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.

While Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others. Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki system of natural healing, recommended that one practice certain simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all cultures.

Reiki Can Never Cause Harm

Because Reiki is guided by the God-consciousness, it can never do harm. It always knows what a person needs and will adjust itself to create the effect that is appropriate for them. One never need worry about whether to give Reiki or not. It is always helpful.

In addition, because the practitioner does not direct the healing and does not decide what to work on, or what to heal, the practitioner is not in danger of taking on the karma of the client. Because the practitioner is not doing the healing, it is also much easier for the ego to stay out of the way and allow the presence of God to clearly shine through.

Energy is Never Depleted

Because it is a channeled healing, the Reiki practitioner's energies are never depleted. In fact, the Reiki consciousness considers both practitioner and client to be in need of healing, so both receive treatment. Because of this, giving a treatment always increases one's energy and leaves one surrounded with loving feelings of well-being.

Treatment

People have sought Reiki treatment for a wide variety of health-related purposes. Some examples include:

Effects of stress.
Chronic pain.
Recovery from surgery and anesthesia.
Side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy for cancer.
Lowering heart rate.
Improving immunity.
Mental clarity.
Sense of well-being and/or spirituality.

Enhancing the sense of peace in people who are dying.

Effects of Reiki

Clients may report a deep feeling of relaxation after a Reiki session. Relaxation in and of itself may have beneficial health-related effects, such as reducing pain, nausea, and fatigue. A client might also experience warmth, tingling, sleepiness, refreshment, and/or the easing of one or more other symptoms after treatment.

Sometimes a Reiki client experiences what practitioners call a "cleansing crisis." The person may have symptoms such as a feeling of weakness or tiredness, a headache, or a stomach ache. Reiki practitioners believe that these are effects of the body releasing toxins. They advise the client on how to deal with such symptoms if they occur, such as by getting more rest, drinking plenty of water, or eating a lighter diet.

Join me for Speaking With Spirit, where I will be making connections with and delivering messages from your loved ones who have crossed over into spirit. Messages from spirit help to bring solace, peace, healing and spiritual insights to those who have been left behind.  While I cannot guarantee who will come through during the event, those who need to receive a message usually will. Sometimes the message will come directly to you, and other times the message you need to hear will be received through another’s connection. Either way, the messages are always filled with hope, comfort and love.

Karma

You hear it all of the time, “Karma is a bitch”. People usually think about karma when someone has done something to them that they believe is wrong. I rarely hear someone talk about karma when something is going right. Why is that?

Perhaps it is human nature to want revenge; to think that some unseen force will bring about justice for you. But if you really think about it, karma has nothing to do with punishment at all.

What is Karma?

 The definition of karma is:
  1. The sum of a person’s actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences.
  2. Destiny or fate, following as effect from cause.
  3. Inevitable consequence.
So if we are to believe the simple definition of the word, then Karma is just a product of cause and effect, by one’s own making.

Action and Reaction

Think about Sir Issac Newton’s 3rd law of motion. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.  If you push on something, it will push back; the bigger the push, the bigger the push back.

For example, consider the flying motion of birds. A bird flies by use of its wings. The wings of a bird push air downwards. Since forces result from mutual interactions, the air must also be pushing the bird upwards. The size of the force on the air equals the size of the force on the bird; the direction of the force on the air (downwards) is opposite the direction of the force on the bird (upwards).

For every action, there is an equal (in size) and opposite (in direction) reaction. Action-reaction force pairs make it possible for birds to fly. (ref. http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/newtlaws/Lesson-4/Newton-s-Third-Law)

It is the intent with which we live our lives that will determine your karma overall.

One act does not reap a reaction from karma. One wrong doing against another person is not what creates the karma of the wrong doer. It’s about the combined energy we emit over time. Likewise, one good act will also not determine your karma.

It is the intent with which we live our lives that will determine our karma overall. One huge bad act or one extreme act of kindness can tip the scales. However, it is the intent, what is within the person over all, that will determine your karma, good or bad.

Karma is not instant nor is it singular.

Thank goodness!

Something else I often hear people say is that they hope to be witness to a person’s negative karma. Let me say here and now, that probably will not happen.  However, how does that one statement affect your karma? In essence, the person making that statement is emitting negative energy against the other person. Perhaps you are justified momentarily in your thought. We are all human, right? We all make mistakes. But think about it, if one bad act could create a karmic reaction, would you be deserving equally of a karmic reaction to your negative thought?

Here is another thought, and something that fits perfectly with the concept of karma. Sometimes God has to let you wreck yourself so he can build you back up.  The sum total of a person’s life is not determined by one period of time. Some people are just going through a difficult period, or a learning curve. They may do some things that hurt others, intentionally or unintentionally during this time. It’s very possible that they will come out of the other side stronger, kinder and wiser. Sometimes that person will go on to do great things. Those great things will balance out their karma, or completely change it.

Yes, there are some who never change. Some people go about their entire lives doing great harm. What you need to remember is that is their karma, not yours. Your karma will, in part, be determined by how you handle difficult people and difficult situations. Something I always tell those who come to me for council, you cannot change how a person acts. You only have control over how you react. The thing is, it’s better not to live your life reacting to someone else. Live your life the best way you can. When you are dealing with a difficult person, say a little prayer for them and move on. Give it to God, it is not for you to judge or try to change.

The Ripple Effect

A stone thrown into a mud puddle will create muddy water. The stone thrown into a clear calm pool of water creates beautiful ripples that can reflect light and create a magnificent picture. Is your water muddy or clean?

Just remember, most people are not lost causes, they have just never learned the effect, good or bad, of what they put out there, into the universe, and how it sets up the ripples that create outcomes.

Basic Meditation

Meditation is simply the practice of relaxing your body and quieting your mind.  Meditation is great method of improving your overall health. Learning to meditate will also help sharpen your awareness, increase concentration and assist in shutting off the mind chatter.

Meditation is also the foundation to developing your psychic ability. It requires discipline and dedication but it is well worth it. Without it you will find it impossible to expand your awareness.

I am amazed that very few books on psychic development start out with teaching meditation techniques, or even talk about now important meditation is to your development. This will be your first step. Practice meditation daily leading up to your first lesson and continue thereafter. It will be a huge benefit to you, not only for your psychic development but also for your health and well being.

It is important to train your mind to clear away unwanted noise and distraction so you can connect with your Higher Self. The constant noise and chatter makes it difficult to hear your inner voice. The more you learn to still your mind chatter, the more you will be able to tune into your psychic senses. The more aware you are the more you will be able to recognize and understand messages from your Higher Self and the more you will be able to discern the differences among the different types of psychic activities.

This meditation is not meant, at the beginning, to do anything more than teach you how to quiet your mind. As we go further into the lessons I will add steps that will help to protect yourself from harmful energies, raise your vibration and help you connect with your angels and spirit guides.

To begin, try to find a quiet place to meditate. Meditating in the same place and at the same time every day (if possible) will help you set the tone for your daily practice. Your body and mind will soon learn that when you enter this place at this time it’s time to go into meditation mode.

Most teachers recommend you sit in a straight backed chair, feet on the floor and hands on your lap. This is supposed to help the energy flow more freely through your body. For me personally, I am not comfortable sitting like that. I always sit in a crossed leg position. I feel what makes you most comfortable is what will work best for you. I also like to light a candle and some incense.

Now, sit or lay in a relaxed comfortable position. Close your eyes and breathe deeply using slow deep breaths. Inhale through your nose for the count of 4, hold for a count of 4 and then exhale slowly through your mouth for the count of 4. Breathing properly is very important. Make sure you breathe deep into your belly. Your belly should rise and fall with each breath. Continue breathing. Concentrate on your breath.

It is perfectly normal for thoughts creep into your mind, especially in the beginning. You must learn to acknowledge and then release them. Let these distractions simply float out of your mind and go back to concentrating on your breathing. Listening to slow rhythmic music, drumming or spirit flutes will help you maintain concentration. If you have trouble in the beginning, don’t get discouraged. Just start with 5 minutes and work your way up each day until you reach at least 15 to 20 minutes.

The more you learn to still your mind chatter the more you will be able to tune into your psychic senses. The more aware you are the more you will be able to recognize and understand messages from your Higher Self and the more you will be able to discern the differences among the different types of psychic activities. You will also begin to recognize the messages from your spirit guides and angels.

Remember, in the beginning your mind will wander. Don’t get discouraged. Be patient. Practice makes perfect.

Record your experiences, feelings, expectations and fears in your journal daily. If you stick with it, in just a few short weeks you will be amazed at your progress.

Helpful hint:

When I am having trouble focusing and quieting my mind I count down from 12 to 1. As I am counting down in my mind, I am also visualizing the numbers in my mind.
